About Department

The Department of Electrical Engineering was established during the inception of the institute in 1999. It took a pioneering role in establishing the undergraduate program in Electrical engineering. This Department has been actively engaged in teaching and research in its field. The major areas of faculty expertise include Power System, Control System, Power electronics & Electrical Drives, Nonconventional Energy Sources & Energy Management etc. The department has a team of experienced faculties from eminent institutions of our country Like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT’s), National Institute of Technology (NIT’s), Calcutta University (West Bengal), Jadavpur University (West Bengal), Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur (West Bengal). The B.Tech Electrical Engineering programme is conducted as per the syllabus prescribed by the West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata, which includes major subjects like Basic Electrical Engineering, Circuit Theory & Networks, Electrical Measurements, Electrical Machines, Control System, Electrical Drives, Power Systems, Power Electronics, Field Theory, Utilization of Electrical Energy, Nonconventional energy sources etc. The department also has a history of strong R&D base and it has produced a number of good students in Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

The Department is strong with most of faculty members holding M.Tech degrees and involved in schedule study and research works in various fields. The broad areas of expertise include State Estimation and Real Time Control of Power Systems, Applications of ANN and Fuzzy Logic in Power Systems, Power System Deregulation, Power System Transients, Power Quality, EMTP applications in Power Systems, Relay Coordination, Application of Power Electronics to Power Quality Improvement and Industrial Drives, DSP controlled Drives, Simulation of Power Electronic Converters and Drives Systems and Control of Special Machines.
