Hospitality management is the management of hotels, resorts, cruise ships, Hospitals, Airlines and other hospitality services. It involves overseeing the operations as well as attending to guest needs. Hospitality industry is a growing field. According to World Travel & Tourism council by 2025 travel & tourism investment is estimated to should reach US$ 120 or 8 percent of total investment.

 In India Hospitality Industry is seeing huge spurt of foreign investment and International brands are entering the market. Most major International hotel brands such as Starwood, Hilton, Marriot, Hyatt and Accor already have a growing presence in India and they have an even stronger pipeline. Marriott International currently has 84 hotels in India across 15 brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, JW Marriott, Renaissance Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Le Meridien, Westin and others and plans to extend its network to 100 hotels by the end 2018.

A typical course of study in this field would include Hotel management, personnel management, Human resource management, law, Accounts, Food science and nutrition, Computer,  marketing, business administration ,customer service and students are taught one foreign language French.

Opportunities:

With Indian economy expanding by about 8% a year, the number of people traveling on business for pleasure is booming. Every year there are 600 million domestic travelers and the number of overseas tourists will increase from 6 million now to 20 million by 2020, according to HVS hospitality services, a consulting firm focused on hotel industry.

Where India now has 100000 top quality rooms for such travelers, by 2020 it is expected that there will be 175000 rooms. But where are the chefs, butlers and housekeepers to serve all the guests.

Hotel association of India estimates that the hotel industry will need to add 150000staffs within five years.
