Workshop on Gravitational Waves and LIGO-India

Siliguri Institute of Technology (SIT) proudly announces a prestigious 5-day national-level workshop on “Gravitational Waves and LIGO-India”, to be held from February 16–20, 2026, at the SIT campus, in collaboration with ICARD, University of North Bengal.

This high-impact academic event is fully sponsored by the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune (Govt. of India) and is specially designed to empower students and young researchers from the North-East and Eastern region of India.

Why This Workshop Matters

Gravitational Waves have revolutionized our understanding of the universe, and with LIGO-India set to become a cornerstone of global GW research, the next 10–20 years will see a massive demand for skilled experts across Physics, Engineering, Data Science, Signal Processing, and Advanced Instrumentation.

This workshop offers a rare opportunity for students to gain first-hand exposure to this cutting-edge field through expert lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on training sessions, all guided by leading scientists from IUCAA, Pune.

Learn from the Best

Participants will interact directly with eminent IUCAA scientists, including:

  • Prof. Bhooshan Gadre
  • Dr. Apratim Ganguly
  • Dr. Saravanan T. R.
  • Dr. Shivraj Kandhasamy
  • Dr. Sandeep Joshi

Their sessions will bridge fundamental theory with real-world experimental practice, offering invaluable insights into current and future GW research.

Who Can Participate

A total of 50 carefully selected participants will take part:

  • 30 participants from IITs, NITs, premier research institutes, and central/state universities across India
  • 20 local participants from Siliguri Institute of Technology

All selected participants will attend under full sponsorship by IUCAA, Pune, making this a truly inclusive and nationally significant academic event.

Target Audience

  • B.Tech./M.Tech. students from Engineering disciplines (CSE, AI–ML, ECE, ECS, Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, etc.)
  • M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in Physics
  • Early-career researchers with interests in astronomy, experimental physics, and signal processing
