Travel & Tourism - Overview

Being one of the largest revenue earner as well as employment provider, this sector is booming in every sphere and attracting a large number of young minds. Tourism is one of the fastest growing industry around the world and is considered as the world’s largest service sector industry. The Travel and Tourism industry incorporates not just the travel agency and tour operators, but also the airlines, hotels, cruise-liners, Destination Marketing Companies, Event Management, Health and Wellness, Education, Leisure and so much more that is related to rejuvenation, exploration and relaxation.

The tourism industry in India is witnessing a period of exponential growth. It has now become signifi­cant in India, contributing to around 10% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) report says that by 2020, tourism in India could contribute Rs. 8,50,000 crore to GDP. This increased tourism scenario in India has created jobs in a variety of related sectors, both directly and indirectly. Almost 20 million people are now working in India’s Tourism Industry.

The Department of Travel & Tourism Management at SIT consists of faculty members with expertise in core tourism. They also carry in-depth knowledge on various form of niche tourism such as wellness tourism, rural tourism, adventure and wildlife tourism, and several other specialisations. The department encourages research activities amongst students.

10+2 passed in any stream from a recognised board. Candidates appearing for Class XII final can also apply.

Field Trip Study

A travel and tourism management study is incomplete without practical exposure of a complete tour, wherein students would be entitled to do a project. A tour, which is closely guided by a faculty with expertise in that area, is an integral part of the curriculum to the travel and tourism management students.
